The reported sex pheromones for Spodoptera exigua (Hubner), S. eridania (Cramer), and S. frugiperda (J. E. smith) were bioassayed for attractiveness to native males by using pheromone-baited sticky traps. None of the chemicals tested either alone or in admixtures, were attractive to S. exigua or S. eridania Highly purified (Z)-9-dodecen-1-ol acetate (Z-9-DDA) was more attractive to ♂ S. frugiperda than Z-9-DDA plus the E isomer, but the E isomer did not appear to be strongly inhibitory pure (Z)-9-tetradecen-1-ol acetate (Z-9-TDA) was not attractive to S. frugiperda , but a mixture containing the E isomer was moderately attractive. Addition of small amounts of Z-9-TDA to Z-9-DDA did not enhance the attractiveness of Z-9-DDA to S. frugiperda . A mixture of Z-9-TDA: ( Z,E )-9,12-tetradecadien-1-ol acetate (96:4) also attracted a significant number of S. frugiperda males.
