This special issue of Women's Studies International Forum argues for expanding the ways in which we think of female labor migration and for challenging dominant perceptions of Asian migrant women only as carers or sex workers in the global economy. The articles focus on East-West migration of skilled women from different parts of South, South East and East Asia, who have been incorporated into migrant streams in many different ways; as skilled workers in both the highly masculinized IT sector and the highly feminized nursing sector by Ball (see record 2004-18012-003), as professional women who move as wives and mothers by Salaff and Greve,(see record 2004-18012-005) and also see in family migration and seek to get their skills recognized in the countries to which they migrate (see record 2004-18012-004), and as students trying to overcome gender discrimination at home, by re-skilling abroad by Ono and Piper,(see record 2004-18012-002). This issue thus highlights the multiple routes through which women with skills migrate and the role of immigration regulations and the household in influencing the different career and personal trajectories that skilled migrant women's lives may take after migration. The article makes a valuable contribution to existing literature on global labor migrations as it highlights the presence of migrant women in masculinized sectors of the economy and in the landscape of hypermobility.(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
