This is an advanced textbook of biochemistry. The authors' discussion of the carbohydrates, fats, and proteins is much more extensive than is to be found in the average medical biochemistry text. The chapters on intermediary metabolism contain, in addition to a complete discussion of metabolic reactions, a well-considered description of the methods of investigation in the field. Especially noteworthy is a section dealing with the state of disorganization of tissue. The discussion of body fluids includes a clear description of acidbase balance and of the role of various body fluids in the normal operation of the organism.
