Poly (buty1ene terephthalate)(PBT) is a recent addition to the engineering thermoplastic polyester materials. Its well-balanced properties such as mechanical strength, moldability, and rapid crystallization have made it popular (1). This gives rise to the need to study its structure and properties. anism for a series of aromatic and aliphatic polyesters. Pratt and Hobbs (4) have conducted a comparative study of crystallization kinetics for poly (ethy1-ene terephthalate), poly (buty1ene terephthalate), and polypropylene using depolarized light intensity and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) techniques. Hobbs and Pratt (5) have also reported some results on skin-core morphological studies on PBT. Recently, Misra and Stein (6) have conducted detailed and systematic studies on PBT. Most of their work was on melt crystallization. It was reported that PBT showed two types of superstructures that depended on the thermal history of the sample. However, PBT remained transparent when crystallized from amorphous glassy state but no details were given (6). In this communication we report some properties of PBT when crystallized from its amorphous glassy state.
