There has been no recent review of Integrated Management of Childhood Illness implementation in South Africa, despite increasing questioning of the utility of the strategy both locally and internationally. I n many resource-limited settings, implementation of the World Health Organization Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) strategy has been adopted as the preferred standard of care for sick children under the age of five years.
