The production of alterporriols, altersolanols and macrosporin by Alternaria porri and A. solani was examined by means of HPLC. Alterporriol-A, -B and -C were detected from both species, using potato sucrose medium, and from A. porri, using onion decoction medium. They were not detected in either species, using Brian''s T medium. Altersolanol-A and -B and macrosporin were detected in both species on all three media tested.
