Research evaluating the vaginal microbiome during pregnancy has largely focused on bacteria, although the most abundant component of the human microbiome is bacteriophages (phages). Despite this new knowledge of the types of phages present in the vagina, follow up is needed to understand how phages influence the vaginal microbiome and/or reproductive health outcomes. Additional longitudinal interrogation of vaginal phage-bacteria-host health interaction networks may provide further insight into mechanisms of vaginal microbiome (in) stability and subsequent health outcomes.[Extracted from the article]Copyright of BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology is the property of Wiley-Blackwell and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites or posted to a listserv without the copyright holder's express written permission.
