The kinetics of CO and C2H4oxidation over CuO, Fe2O3, MnO2, SnO2, ZrO2and CuCr2O4have been studied. The results are compared with those over the other metal oxides reported previously. The reactions are positive fractional order with respect to O2, CO and C2H4and inhibited by H2O to various degrees. Co3O4, CuO and CuCr2O4have higher activity for both CO and C2H4than the other oxides. The reduction in activity as a function of SO2concentration in the gaseous phase and the reversibility of the SO2effect have been determined. In general, the SO2effect on C2H4oxidation is less than that on CO. CuO and CuCr2O4are more tolerant to SO2than Co3O4and thus could be better candidates for oxidation catalysts for automobile emission control.
