The pH-mobility relationships for standard saline washed Ehrlich ascites tumour cells before and after treatment with trypsin, neuraminidase and lower aldehydes have been examined. Supernatant fluids from neuraminidase-treated cells assayed for sialic acid by the method of Warren and supernatant from trypsin treated cells examined by paper chromatography. From a correlation between the analytical and electrokinetic data it is deduced that this cell''s surface bears at least three ionogenic systems, a carboxyl group (pK about 2.8), of a sialic acid, an unidentified acidic group(s) (pK about 3.5 - 4.0) and a basic group (pK about 10).
