When a ship ’ s operator attempts to avoid other ships or obstacles , it is we11 − known that some imaginary domain , which never let other ships or obstacles invade , exists around the ship , and this domain changes its size or shape under the influence of circumstances such as expanse of sea , traffic congestion or ships ’ speed . Models of these domains in wider sea such as bay or channel have been advocated and practical . But in restrected sea such as harbour , the state of affairs of domain is sti ! 1 unknown . On the basis of the above consideration we inquiries to pilots and passing distance between ships or obstacles in harbour , and then found that can be closely resem − bled by regression lines through the regression analysis . As the result of the investigation , we pro − posed models of 皿 ariners ’ senses on passing distance between ships or obstacles in harbour which is resembled by logarithmic normal distribution .
