Neil Postman I am going to argue that a new media environment, with television at its center, is leading to the rapid disappearance of childhood in North America; that childhood will probably not survive to the end of this century; and that such a state of affairs represents a social disaster of the first order. When I have made my argument, I will stop. This isn’t to say that there is no solution to the problem, only that my own imaginative reach for solutions goes no further than my grasp of the problem. From what I’ve seen of your conference program, I wouldn’t be surprised if many of you can think of solutions; in fact, ACE1 itself is a solution of sorts.
