In a series of experimental studies marked increase of blood flow was noted in tumor tissue with elevated blood pressure produced by angiotensin II, while no increase was detected in normal tissues (Suzuki et al., 1977a,1978,1979a,b). Thus, the functional difference between tumor and normal vessels could be applied selectively in cancer chemotherapy to enhance the delivery of drugs to tumor tissue (Suzuki et al., 1977b, 1980). This paper deals with the procedures and results obtained in clinical cancer chemotherapy studies (Sato et al., 1979b, c) which have used the concept based on the above experimental observations.
