Male and female specimens of Pseudanthias rubrolineatus, collected from 60 m depth off the south coast of Point Ombo-saki, Take-shima Island, Osumi Group, Kagoshima, Japan, are described in detail. Although numerous underwater photographs of the species have been published from Japanese waters, no specimens have been reported since its original description from New Caledonia. A new Japanese name is proposed
