The body is composed of various tissues, viscera and organs, which do not age uniformly. The mode of aging varies among individuals as well as in different parts of the body. Risk factors for accelerated aging also vary among individuals. For people in their late 30s, age-related, pathological degenerative changes start to occur in some parts of the body, which may lead to diseases and negatively affect other healthy parts of the body. From the results of studies involving 100-year-old persons who have achieved healthy longevity, it can be concluded that they achieved uniform and balanced aging of the whole body and had fewer aging risk factors. This indicates that the best approach to healthy longevity is to identify weak points of aging at an early age through an anti-aging medical checkup, take necessary actions to promote harmonized aging of the whole body and correct risk factors for aging (Fig. 1). Before starting an anti-aging treatment protocol, we need to undertake aging assessments, including assessment of the degree of aging and risk factors for accelerated aging. The anti-aging medical checkup system represents a future direction of the current thorough medical checkup system. While a regular thorough medical checkup is primarily focused on prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer and lifestyle-related diseases, an anti-aging medical checkup is aimed at the detection, prevention and treatment of pathological aging, in addition to the above. Many of the lifestyle-related diseases are also recognized as aging risk factors.
