Grouted Sleeve Connections are commonly applied in precast columns for enhanced construction efficiency. In this paper, a precast RC/ECC composite column with grouted sleeve connections was proposed by substituting concrete with ECC in the plastic hinge zone of columns to improve its seismic performance. Cyclic loading was applied to a precast RC column, a precast RC/ECC composite column and a cast-in-place RC column to compare their seismic performance. According to the test results, both the two precast columns show a similar ductility and load-carrying capacity as the cast-in-place RC column. The precast RC/ECC composite column shows a better energy dissipation capacity and a better damage resistance than the precast RC column and the cast-in-place column. Therefore, application of ECC in the plastic hinge zone of precast column can effectively enhance its seismic performance.
