Amos Paran started his EFL career teaching in secondary schools in Israel and writing ELT materials there. He then did an MA followed by a PhD on reading at the University of Reading, giving rise to many jokes. After working at the Centre for Applied Language Studies at Reading, he moved to the Institute of Education in London, where he teaches on the MA TESOL. He is the co-ordinator of the IATEFL Literature and Cultural Studies SIG. His research interests are reading, literature in EFL, and distance education.
