The (j75-C5H5)(C0) 2Fe (or Fp) organometallic system and its phosphine-or phosphite-substituted derivatives have been used in synthetic studies for converting ligatedcarbon monoxide into oxygenated organic molecules. 1, 2 Alkoxyacetyl iron complexes 1, with their C2 ligand originating from two CO groups on CpFe (CO) 3+, accordingly have been transformed selectively into carbalkoxymethyl 2, alkoxy-formylmethyl 3, and formylmethyl 4 complexes (eq1). These complexes, in turn, upon protonolysis afford acetic acid ester, glycoaldehyde ether, and acetaldehyde, re-spectively. 3
