We determine the Lusternik–Schnirelmann category of real Stiefel manifolds Vn,kand quaternionic Stiefel manifolds Xn,kfor n⩾2k which is equal to the cup-length of the mod 2 cohomology of Vn,kand the integer cohomology of Xn,k, respectively.
