Readily accessed cobalt pre‐catalysts with N‐heterocyclic carbene ligands catalyze the Suzuki cross‐coupling of aryl chlorides and bromides with alkyllithium‐activated arylboronic pinacolate esters. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicate that the cobalt species is reduced to Co0during the reaction.
