Procedural blanks from commercial solid-phase extraction (SPE) cartridges have been characterized. Alkanes, alkenes, plasticizers, and antioxidants were identified as possible interference compounds by extracting components of the cartridges and by analyzing these extracts by GC/MS. Most of the compounds identified in the extracts were also observed in the procedural blanks from use of the SPE cartridges.
