The result of measurement of the vertical displacements of the bench-marks due to the interval 1930-1931 revealed a zone of remarkable depression in Honzyo and Hukagawa, Tokyo. This zone of depression was shown to be nearly coincident with a valley in the surface feature of the Tertiary Bed underlying the district and also with the zone of wells yielding methane gas. These previous investigations' were, how ever, based on the vertical displacements of the bench-marks installed by the authorities of the Military Land Survey Department. On the other hand, there are 33 bench-marks distributed in Honzyo and Hukagawa which have been installed by the municipal authorities of Tokyo.31 The heights of these bench-marks, together with those of five bench-marks installed by the authorities of the Military Land Survey Department" and four bench-marks installed by the authorities of the Reconstruction Bureau," were first measured inNov. 1929 with the accuracy up to 0.1mm. Recently a revision of the precise levelling was carried out" in Honzyo and Hukagawa and the vertical displacements of the above mentioned 42 bench-marks due to the epoch Nov. 1929-March 1932 were measured. The vertical displacements measured are shown in Fir. 1. by numerical figures in brackets. On the analysis of the present data of the vertical displacements of the bench-marks by the method already mentioned," we notice five groups of the bench-marks, four of which are regarded as situated on respective crust blocks tilted in the directions with magnitudes repre sented by the directions and lengths of the arrows in Fig. 1.
