RESULTSThere were 3 of 63 DBMC patients who had chronic rejection (CR on biopsy and increasing serum creatinines 2 mg/dL). Two of these had polyoma virus diagnosed in their kidney transplant biopsies. This was in contrast with 42 of the 219 CAD controls with the same chronic rejection parameters (P. 01). In the DBMC group, chimerism as measured by the quantitative PCR-ffow method has increased threefold in yearly sequential iliac crest bone marrow aspirations between 1 and 4 years postoperatively, with some patients now having 3% chimeric DBMC in the CAD group.
