Mechanical Property of Rusty Rebar Considering the Effects of Corrosion Pits

Effects of corrosion pits on the yield strength of rusty rebar were studied. The deterioration of the mechanical property of rebar was discussed with respect to the width and depth of the pit. The stress concentration caused by the corrosion pit was numerically analyzed. It is found that exponential relation exists between the depth of pit and the ratio of yield load for rusty and uncorroded rebar,while the width of the pit has little effect on the ratio. It is also found that the stress concentration around the pits lead to the deterioration of the rusty rebar.
