The [2, 3]-Wittig rearrangement is a thermally allowed sigmatropic isomerization, initiated by the treatment of allylic ethers (1) with suitable base, typically an alkyl lithium at low temperature. C2'deprotonation and concerted rearrangement gives homo-allylic alcohols 2 with high regio-, diastereo-, and enantio-selectivity.[1]
