The redox kinetics of the reaction was studied in 3 to 6M nitric acid solution by the extraction of tracer 239Np into TBP or TOPO in dodecane. Considering the changes in the activity coefficients of the relevant species in nitric acid solutions, the rate constant in the equation, -d[Np(V)]/dt=kf [Np(V)]-kT [Np(VI)], has been shown to be expressed by kf = 10−1.21[HNO3]t[HNO2]1/2(ysyu 1/2/aw 1/2 ), where y s is the stoichiometric activity coefficient of nitric acid. y u the activity coefficient of HNO2 and a w the rational activity of water.
