Theoretical aspects of 31P NMR studies of phospholipids in membranes are reviewed and some experimental results with 3-sn-phosphatidylcholine, 3-sn-phosphatidylethanolamine, 3-sn-phosphatidic acid, 3-sn-phosphatidylglycerol, 3-sn-phosphatidylserine, biological membranes and the influence of cholesterol on them are reported. 31P [''H] nuclear Overhauser effects studies are also discussed.
