Based on 1979~ 1995 monthly upper level water vapor (6.7 μm ) brightness temperature (HIRS-Tb12) and OLR satellite data, the climatic characteristics of tropical Walker circulation and its relationship of summer rainfall pattern has been studied. We develop some new index of Walker cell such as intensity, average location and extension. The results show that the seasonal change of the ascending and descending branch of Walker cell are different, especial in ENSO phase. In this paper, we also study possible relationship of index of Walker cell and the summer rainfall pattern of China.
