At the recent conference of the World Conservation Union, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, and TRAFFIC, held in Yaounde to discuss the links between bushmeat, livelihoods, and food security, it became clear that the conservation agencies were having difficulty relat-ing to development agencies, and vice versa. If conservation action is to be funded by conservation agencies, this problem may be dodged (usually to emerge another day), but such evasion is generally not an op-tion if conservation agencies are seeking development funding to ad-dress the bushmeat crisis.This poses the question of why development agencies should be in-terested in bushmeat issues at all, given the differences between conservation and development agendas. I examine this question in the context of development agencies' aims and highlight the type of information development agencies are likely to respond to.
