A 52 year-old woman with colon cancer underwent whole-body positron emission tomography (PET) for evaluation of tumor recurrence. A clot in her superior vena cava had been shown by computed tomography (CT) approximately 2 months before the PET study. Focal F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake was noted in the superior vena cava, corresponding exactly to the extent of the thrombus noted on CT. This case shows that a chronic thrombus can have focal FDG uptake.
