Yellow rust of wheat caused by Puccinia striiformis West.is economically important in most wheat growing areas in China.Epidemics of wheat yellow rust have occurred annually since 1950,all over the country or in some areas.Breeding and using of wheat resistance cultivars are the cheapest, most reliable and environmentally safest way to control the disease.A great deal of effort has been spent on enhancing the genetic diversity by seeking resistance genes from wheat genetic materials and subsequently transferring them into cultivated wheat.Inheritance of resistance of Xingzi 9104,an elite wheat germplasm, against wheat yellow rust(Puccinia striiformis West.) was analyzed by combining the hybridization with postulation of genes for yellow rust resistance of wheat. The results indicated that there were at least one pair of dominant independent genes to Puccinia striiformis at the seedling stage of Xingzi 9104 which control the resistance to CY17 of P.striiformis, one pair of dominant genes to Puccinia striiformis at the adult plant stage which control the resistance to CY32 of P.striiformis.The gene YrSk for yellow rust resistance at the seedling stage was also postulated in Xingzi 9104.The wheat line can be used in wheat improvement program for controlling wheat yellow rust effectively in China.
