In Brazil, the average number of deaths due to illness triggered by air pollution is about 50,000 people a year. Thus, anything that can be done to control air pollution will be a relevant step for the quality of life of populations in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Agenda 2030. This work aims to present the methodology developed to assess the impact of industrial atmospheric emissions in the city of Manaus, as an environmental determinant of the populations’ health. This study will be carried out by field surveys and statistical analysis of medical records that are available in Basic Health Units of two communities, one that will serve as an exposed community (Parque São Pedro) and the other as a control (Jesus Me Deu). These communities were chosen due to the existence near theParque São Pedrocommunity of an industrial source with relevant atmospheric emissions, with potential impact on the health of the population. TheJesus Me DeuCommunity will be used as a control community, as it is located upwind from the source in terms of the predominating winds in the region. In order to be comparable, these communities present homogeneous/identical socio-economic structures, residential patterns and similar basic public services.
