In recent years from 1984, the tendency of wood land expansion was observed in the Tama river. It becomes clear that there is significant correlation between the succession of instream vegetation and the site factors such as bed material grain sizes, relative depths of stored alluvium and groundwater levels on the gravel river-bed. The range and types of vegetation in rivers are determined by site factors of fine sediments that resulted from flood above all things. The result of this research shows usefulness of applications for forecasting wood land expansion or roughness in alluvial rivers.
