formed by monotonous cells may be misinterpreted as rosettes, a typical finding in carcinoid tumours, the latter tumours consist predominantly of loose groups of cells with a background of single cells and nucleoli are not conspicuous. Epithelioid GISTs exhibit highly cellular smears and loosely cohesive groups with many single cells and, although occasional nuclear pleomorphism, hyperchromasia and irregular nuclear contours may mimic adenocarcinoma, spindle cells are consistently seen. Furthermore, tumour cells are immunoreactive for c-Kit and CD34. In conclusion, we present the cytological findings of a patient with heterotopic pancreas in the lesser curvature of the gastric body diagnosed preoperatively by EUS-FNAC. It is essential for the cytopathologist to become familiar with the cytological features of heterotopic pancreas and not to misdiagnose it as malignancy or other tumours.
