Forty-eight heifers were paired and randomly allocated to two equal groups. One group was implanted with 300 mg trienbolone acetate (Finaplix) 60 days before the expected date of slaughter. An improvement in liveweight gain of 37.6% was recorded in the implanted group, with no significant difference in the killing-out percentage. 91% of the heifers receiving implant were graded as suitable for the UK beef subsidy at 60 days as opposed to 67% of the control group.
