In this study, the social, environmental and economic causes contributing to agrobiodiversity loss in the chagra (crop fields) of the Inga indigenous people in the Colombian Amazon were analyzed. A qualitative methodology was used, specifically semi-structured interviews and focus groups, and collected data was validated during community meetings. The results show that agrobiodiversity loss is mainly due to changes in local paradigms of consumption, changes in the traditional relationship of the Inga people with their land; the increase of coca crops in the region, coca economy, fumigation with glyphosate, external projects, changes in educational and migration processes, and few possibilities for trading products from the chagra.
