A novel and sensitive electrochemical sensor based on porous pseudo-carbon paste electrode (PPCPE) for paracetamol detection is described. The physical and chemical properties of PPCPE are discussed in detail, the results show that the specific surface area of PPCPE with pores ranging from 2 to 5 μm in diameter is 59.26 m2 · g–1. The obtained PPCPE possesses excellent hydrophilic. It was demonstrated that PPCPE exhibites a high selectivity and sensitivity toward paracetamol in comparison with polypyrrole modified carbon paste electrode (PCPE), carbon nanotube modified carbon paste electrode (CNTPE) and carbon paste electrode (CPE). The calibration curve for the differential pulse voltammogram (DPV) peak current observed for paracetamol oxidation versus paracetamol concentration at PPCPE shows two linear regions. The first region demonstrates linearity over a concentration range of 2 to 0.1 mM with a correlation coefficient of 0.99638, the linear region with the concentration of paracetamol is from 0.1 to 0.02 mM with a correlation coefficient of 0.99818, the detection limit is as low as 0.005 mM and the electrochemical sensor is easy to preserve for a long time and has good reusability and stability.
