Victrex polyethersulfone was nitrated efficiently and controllably on its deactivated aromatic ring with a mixture of ammonium nitrate and trifluoroacetic anhydride. The products were characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy, their thermal properties were investigated by TGA and DSC methods. A comparison is made between this procedure and the analogous nitration of Udel polysulfone. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
