Letlbe an odd prime number,K/ka finite Galois extension of totally real number fields, andG∞, X∞the Galois groups ofK∞/kandM∞/K∞, respectively, whereK∞is the cyclotomicl-extension ofKandM∞the maximal abelianS-ramifiedl-extension ofK∞withSa sufficiently large finite set of primes ofk. We introduce a newK-theoretic variant of the Iwasawaℤ[[G∞]]-moduleX∞and, forK/kabelian, formulate a conjecture, which is the main conjecture of classical Iwasawa theory whenlł[K : k]. We prove this new conjecture when Iwasawa'sμ-invariant vanishes and discuss consequences for the Lifted Root Number Conjecture atl.
