Early in 1936 Dr. TK Huang, Messrs. SF Sheng, I. Ting and KS Tsui during their field work in the Changhsing coal field, NW Chekiang, found Scythic pelecypods and ammonoids in the so-called Chinglung limestone of that region. The discovery of Lower Triassic marine fossils from the Chinglung limestone is of great importance, since in the Lower Yangtze Valley few diagnostic fossils have ever been found or described,'and the correlation of this limestone has been purely based upon the nature of the rock or the stratigraphical succession. Knowing that the Chinglung limestone is well-developed in the Nanking area, Messrs. YS Chi, SF Sheng and the writer have taken successive trips to the Nanking Hills in order to see whether the Chinglung limestone there is also fossiliferous. Fortunately they discovered several fossiliferous horizons and the material together with that obtained by Huang and his assistants was enthrusted to the writer for study. In this occasion the writer has also studied the material collected from Kwangsi and sent to the National Geological Survey by Messrs. C. Li and WY Chang of the National Research Institute of Geology, and the specimens stored in the Museum of the Survey collected by Prof. C.
