THE TYPE A CORONARY PRONE BEHAVIOR PATTERN was origi nally described by Friedman and Rosenman (1974). The Type A individual exhibits high levels of competitive achievement-striving, time urgency, ag gressiveness, and hostility. People who do not exhibit these characteristics are classified as Type B. In both retrospective and prospective studies, the Type A pattern has been associated with an increased incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD).
