Methionine sulfoximine, a potent inhibitor of glutamine synthetase, inhibits growth ofChlorella vulgaris. Growth inhibition is prevented by adding L-glutamine or L-methionine to the growth medium. We show that glutamine and methionine act by blocking methionine sulfoximine uptake into the cell.
