2-(2'-Hydroxynaphthalenyl)benzoxazole (1) emits fluorescence with small Stokes shift from its excited tautomer (K*), produced by excited-state intramolecular proton transfer. Intramolecular hydrogen bonding may be responsible for this phenomenon on comparison with the results of 2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole (HBO) and 2-(naphthalene-l-yl)benzoxazole (2) as a reference Compound.
