A new gel (mixture of hydroxyethylcellulose and agarose) allows, by electroimmunodiffusion, the determination of high molecular weight proteins (asα2-macroglobulin), weak electrophoretic mobility proteins (like IgA) or proteins presenting these two inconvenients (IgM, for example). The sensitivity obtained reaches 0.10 to 0.15 mg/100 ml (5 to 7.5 ng). The preliminary results, on unconcentrated CSF, are discussed, especially in demyelinating diseases. The method is easily applied to serum (example:α2M) after convenient dilution: it allows to correlate, at the same time, the level of a protein in serum and CSF.
