Based on the theories of modern sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy,the distribution and evolution of lithofacies,palaeogeography,stratgraphic division and correlation in Ordos basin during Palaeozoic are studied.Sequence stratigraphy analysis is also used to study characteristics of filling sediment in Ordos Palaeozoic basin. According to the results of study, three basin evolution stages are defined. They are epicontinental sea and rift(or down warped)basin from Benxi stage of late Carboniferous to Taiyuan stage of early Permian,offshore lake basin in Shanxi stage of early Permian as well as inland down warped basin in Shihezi and Shiqianfeng stage of middle or late Permian.
