With respect to the first, the Journal’s own criteria of a casebased review includes the presentation of an interesting case and a review of the literature. Here, even a cursory mention of the extensive literature on the subject of HPV vaccine safety has been omitted in favour of some selected case reports with the term Adverse Events replaced with Adverse Reactions implying causality. It is highly inappropriate to apply the term Adverse Reaction to case reports of drug-related events where causality has not been established. However, of greater concern is the methodology, which is generally not described in the paper other than to indirectly note that questionnaires were sent to selected individuals who identified on anti-vaccination websites and blogs as having the onset of the symptoms in question. This is a very low bar to set for scientific enquiry.The discussion and conclusions are by no means supported by the methods or results and, like the background, the discussion does not review the extensive literature or even mention it.
