numerous excellent illustrations, partly in color, which are well reproduced. The literature cited is extensive, with German contributions dominant. This should be of special interest to American investigators who often fail to keep up with developments abroad. The preference of German articles, understandable as it is in a text aimed primarily at a German-speaking audience, not infrequently seems to do injustice to the orginal observers, although these may get proper credit in the literature cited.
