The article offers information on podocytes and their relation with lupus nephritis. Podocytes are much differentiated epithelial cells which surround glomerular capillary loops. Recent studies did not confirm expression on podocytes in relatively big cohorts of patients with focal and segmental glomerular sclerosis or lupus nephritis. A study by R. Fu on activation of inflammasome in glomerular podocytes during human lupus nephritis is also examined.
