Patients [125] with 127 ununited fractures of the tibial diaphysis were treated exclusively with pulsing electromagnetic fields. The overall success rate in fracture healing with this surgically non-invasive out-patient method was 87%. The success rate was not materially affected by age or sex of the patient, length of prior disability, number of previous failed operations, or presence of infection or metal fixation.
