The original paper was published in the Zeitschrift für Psychologie und Physiologie die Sinnesorgane, 7, 172–187, 1891, by Pro-fessor Th. Wertheim. This research fur-nishes basic data relative to the physiology of the eye. Its importance is readily apparent when it is appreciated that in this treatise Wertheim presents graphic data (Fig. 4) which have been extensively used in the modern physiological optics literature of this subject. Therefore, an English transla-tion would afford wide dissemination not only of the data but also of the explanations accompanying the text.
