Despite its potential taxonomic utility, the endophallus (a membranous inner sac everted from the aedeagus) of the male genitalia has not been examined in the Hypherpes complex, an endemic North American monophyletic clade within the genus Pterostichus Bonelli, 1810 (Coleoptera: Carabidae). This study examined the endophallus of a species within this complex, Pterostichus (Hypherpes) lama (Ménétriés, 1843). The endophallus of this species is stout, short, and weakly bent ventrally, has several lobes and swellings, and lacks sclerites on the surface. These results are discussed from taxonomic and phylogenetic perspectives.
